The Urban Academy Laboratory High School also known as the Urban Academy is a small, progressive, transfer public high school located on the Upper East Side of New York City. Founded in 1986, its goal was to create a place where students could learn in a nontraditional sense. In 1995, it became one of six small schools located in the Julia Richman Education Complex.The structure of the classes is nontraditional. Teachers don't lecture rather, they facilitate class discussions. They create their own curriculum and direct students with a focus on inquiry, critical thinking, and problemsolving. Urban's academic program is rigorous and collegeoriented. It has been designated a U.S. Department of Education "Blue Ribbon School of Excellence" and a "New American High School National Showcase Site."The structure of the classes is nontraditional. Hardy threw and batted righthanded, stood 5 feet, 10160inches 1.78 m tall and weighed 180 pounds 82160kg in his playing days.Hardy graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in business administration. Selected in the 23rd round of the 1970 amateur draft by the San Diego Padres, he reached Major League Baseball with the 1974 Padres, appearing in 76 games as a rookie, all but one of them as a relief pitcher, winning nine games, saving two, and losing four. He would appear in only 18 more MLB games in 19751976, with the Padres and Houston Astros, and spend the rest of his playing career at the TripleA level of minor league baseball.
