The Chipotle style of serving has caught on to other cuisine. Kaya Street Kitchen is a Southeast Asian fusion bowl type restaurant located in the Fairfax District part of town. I've been eyeing this restaurant ever since Kevin P. reviewed this place. From photos, it looked good and good it definitely is. Kaya is somewhat unique because there isn't much Singaporean, Malaysian, or Indonesian restaurants around.
I was in the neighborhood and needed to grab a bite to eat. I walked in greeted and explained the menu. The workers here are very helpful and friendly. You have the option to make your own bowl or choose from a pre-set entr??e. I chose the Beef Up with coconut lime rice, coconut lemongrass steak, garlic kale, sweet tamarind slaw, S.E. Asian salsa, sambal corn and light pickles. For toppers, I chose crispy garlic (must) and crushed roasted peanuts. For my sauces, I chose a sweet soy glaze that I topped over the steak.
This bowl was very good. The steak was tender with generous servings and the combination of flavors was very good and left satisfied.
I also ordered a lychee mint tea which was delicious and refreshing. I'd go here again just for this drink that has some lychee puree on the bottom.
Definitely worth a try if you're in the Fairfax District.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
