I was a little jostled by the South African meats with a flag from the Republic of South Africa on the wall in a European sausage store. I guess it's all good now in these post-apartheid times, but it did cause me to do a double-take.
The droewors South African style dried sausage was like a dried blood sausage and fun to eat like a snack, but very strongly flavored and doesn't play well with other foods. The boerewors (probably not a coincidence that this sound much like Boer Wars) South African style beef sausage was like a fresh version of the droewors. It wasn't as much fun to eat with a watery consistency and a one-note flavor. On the European side of things, the veal bockwurst was finely textured, but with basic and traditionally mild flavors.
Although it's not easy to find well-made German sausages and unique South African meats, I was disappointed by the inventory and convenience. Perhaps it was coming late afternoon on a Saturday, but the selection was poor with about six types of sausages.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
