I sort of stumbled upon Caf?? N??! while staying in Mitte last year. Food options near the Friedrichstrasse are rather limited and I didn't feel like riding the metro. The closest U-Bahn stops are Mohrenstra??e (U2) and 22930705 Franz??sische Stra??e (U6).

The first time I went there late at night on a weeknight. They had a special pasta with pork that was absolutely fantastic. It was so good, in fact, that after I finished my first order, I ordered a second of the same 22930705 thing. Sure, I felt like a pig, but it was 10:00pm and I was eating my first meal of the day. I was proud of myself for finishing both portions.

My second visit (September 2010), my friends and I ate there for a birthday party. The waiter, who is one of the owners, recommended a great bottle of wine to go with the "N??! Teller fur zwei Personen," that actually 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee fed three of us pretty well. It was great. The added sparkler and visit from the owner provided a festive touch.

I revisited Caf?? N??! again in June 2011. Had the bacon-wrapped prunes as an appetizer, which were fantastic. Followed that with crostini with white anchovies and stewed tomatoes, which blew my mind. 22930705 Enjoyed a meatless Alsatian tart, which was flaky and delicious (be careful not to cover yourself with flour).

If the weather is nice, be sure to eat outside. Servers come by frequently, so it's not as if you'll be ignored. The last time I ate there there was a large party occupying most of the tables, so the staff had to improvise and make tables out of barstools with tablecloths. Nice try, but it didn't 22930705 quite work for me. There simply isn't enough room. I don't imagine that happens often. The wine selection seems extensive and the owners seem to be real connoisseurs. They've always been great with suggestions of bottles or glasses to go with any meal we've had.

When given the menu, I asked the waitress if there were any daily specials. She looked at me as if I was some sort of idiot American, pointed at the menu and said "everything is in here." It was only after I had ordered that I noticed the blackboard where they write their daily specials. Be sure to check it out, as you may not hear about them otherwise. I'll cut the girl some slack, as I don't think her English was that great and I know my German is terrible.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
