My boyfriend and I enjoyed a delicious late lunch 14901558 here on a Monday afternoon. We only ordered starters so that we could try a few dishes; pork, eggs wrapped in bacon, and the clams and mussels. My favorite was the pork which was tossed in a sauce mix of star anise and red wine; I'm not a fan of star anise but this was delicious for the pork and the licorice taste wasn't distinct at all. (If you could send me the recipe, I'd really appreciate it!).7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee

This was one of those dining experiences in which I could find precious little to complain about. And when I have an experience like that, 14901558 it's difficult to assign anything under five stars.

On the night we were there, TUC Craft Kitchen didn't do any one thing that flat-out knocked our socks off. But it did just about everything very well indeed. WHAT it did, at least on the night we were there, was provide 14901558 a leisurely and pleasurable high-end comfort-food dining experience, with big flavors.

Starters were albondigas and the crispy bacon & egg. (Actually, the bacon & egg deal is called a "bite" on the menu.) Both were 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee simple and delicious. Little side green salads were also very simple, but got a refreshing boost from mint.

As an entree, the herb-roasted arctic char was a miracle of sorts. On paper, it sounded like a good dish: "summer squash salad, coconut raita potatoes, scallion jelly." On the plate, it looked like a hot mess: what looked 14901558 like both a curry underneath and pesto on top, plus a bunch of random spinach leaves. My immediate thought was, "How in tarnation is this dish going to work?" Somehow, it worked wonders, involving huge, seemingly contradictory bold flavors that somehow complimented each other. Big portion too.

My wife got the cabernet braised beef cheeks. It functioned as I'm sure it was intended to, bringing intensely concentrated beefy flavor in a satisfying comfort-food vehicle. Really good.

There's a nice list of cocktails, draft beer, 14901558 and wines by the glass, with reasonably priced options.

Service fit in quite well with TUC's general food motif: Unfussy, straightforward, and easy-going.

TUC is a warmer, better lit, and generally more attractive restaurant than suggested by a lot of the photos (even those on the restaurant's own website), which make the decor look a bit chintzy. There's a convivial hum to it. 14901558 (One of the only things I'll complain about is the music, which sounded like a soundtrack for the Bud Light crowd (did I hear Sublime and Dave Matthews?), but the volume was kept low.)

This all weighed in at around $100 for two, with tax, tip, and a couple of drinks each included. That's a five-star deal, or at least close enough.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
