It's a hidden gem and I've never heard 10060032 of it until a mixologist at Maharlika in New York I felt who shamed me for not knowing history behind the Filipino bartenders of the 1930s after Prohibition at Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic's here in LA, who were the original mixologists. Behind the bar today were the son and grandson of one Ray Buhen, one the bartenders from that era. No one else at the bar making drinks but them. <p><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><span style="font-size: 12px; color: #f4f5f5;">It'd been over 8 years since I'd last been to LA when I found myself stumbling into Tiki-Ti, and back then, I wasn't even old enough to get into a place like this! I've always been a fan of a good tiki bar - and I'm not referring 10060032 to a subpar substitute like a "Tiki Tuesday"-themed night at any ol' bar - so it was good to see one that was tiki from the ceiling to the floor.
When you get to this tiny little brick building, you get the most disheartening part of your patronage here - the line - out of the way early. It's hard 10060032 to blame 3-generation-owned establishment like this for being small, but just know you could be spending some quality time in the line before you get through the the door. Solution: come with friends.
Life is good from there on out once you're inside. Fortunately, the up-front crowd control makes the drink wait more manageable, 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee and after just about 2 drinks - or maybe even 1 - you'll be in a pretty good spot!
It doesn't take a Yelp review to give you the impression that these drinks are going to be STRONG...the word "tiki" should have been your giveaway there. For the ultimate in alcohol-induced-annihilation and bartender showmanship, the "Blood & Sand" is the only way to go. After mixing up the base 10060032 of the cocktail, the folks behind the bar pull out the wind-up bull for a sprint across the counter, unforgivingly pouring Jose Cuervo into your glass while shouting "toro toro toro!" 1/3 of a bottle of tequila later, you and 2 of your friends - you know, the ones you were standing in line for 15 minutes with - have your drinks in-hand...you didn't really think you were getting a whole 1/3 of a bottle to yourself, did you?
Whether you thought that or not, a few sips in, you'll feel like you did! By the bottom of the glass, you'll be toast, and against your better judgement, you'll order another drink! Yes, it's just one of those bars...
If you had any time before you got tanked, hopefully you noticed the great tropical-and-LA-themed decor. The Buhen family does a good job here. Whether it's the elaborate waterfall behind the bar, or the Los Angeles Rams pins hanging around the lights, this place has character.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
