You may feel like your GPS is lying to you as it states you are approaching the restaurant as you'll find yourself in a very residential neighborhood. But lo and behold, you spot what looks like a small bar or restaurant 13465286 in the basement of a house. You think to yourself, "hmmm...do I really want to eat in someone's basement?" The only appropriate answer is "YES!"
My friend described Hammerheads as cozy with good food. Cozy is right. You'll rub elbows with your fellow Louisvillians since it's most likely only locals that know about this place. We were seated right next to the front door, at a counter overlooking the street. This was perfect for us. We enjoyed 13465286 watching people come and go and noticing the very diverse clientele. Every walk of life was coming in...and having a great time.
We started with the mac & cheese balls. My friend thought the batter was too gummy (it kind of was), but overall I thought it was really good. You can't go wrong with fried macaroni and cheese, right? Our waiter 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee brought out Tabasco sauce with the mac & cheese balls and assured us it's delicious with the sauce. He was very right.
I ordered the venison burger, and my friend ordered the beef brisket sandwich. My initial thought of the venison burger (from looks only), was a little disappointing. Being a huge fan of the burgers at Mussel and Burger Bar, 13465286 I felt like this venison burger would not be up to par. The venison burger comes with bleu cheese, jalapeno-sage aioli, and served on a pretzel bun. After one bite I was convinced that looks can be deceiving. It was fantastic and most definitely venison. I loved the gaminess of it (if you're into venison).
Being from Texas, I am very picky about brisket, and I'm usually not too excited to try brisket outside of Texas. My friend's sandwich looked good, so I had to go in for a taste. I have to say, the brisket had a great flavor, and I was a bit surprised it was made here in Kentucky. I'd still pick the venison burger 13465286 over the brisket sandwich (for its uniqueness), but Hammerheads has my respect for the brisket.
My friend and I shared the Grippo fries. Not being from these parts, I was not familiar with Grippo, but my friend assured me I would like it. I love BBQ chips, so this was a no brainer after his description of Grippo chips. The menu states the fries are shareable - take the menu's word for it.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
