Get here before the matinee shows let out, 5661343 or you'll wait a long time. But don't be disheartened if you wait, as they'll serve drinks and some food. There's a method--but find the staff to show you. Croquetas were excellent. Octopus with Capers is popular and for good reason--really delicious. HIGH energy restaurant. As it's all bar-style seating, don't bring a large group (unless you don't want to talk with a few of them).7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee

Without a doubt, two of the best 5661343 and most fun meals we've had in London so far have been at Barrafina.

Once we stopped in on a whim around 8:45pm after heading to Soho seeking gelato, and decided to brave the long queue for one of the bar seats. The readily available wine and snacks helped mitigate the 5661343 tired feet, and the liveliness of the place kept us engaged. The second time we went before a theatre performance to the other location, and it was just as good, with no wait at 5:15pm.

Both times, the food was absolutely stellar - some of the best tapas I've had anywhere. They do the classics very well, with delicious 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee cold meats like Cecina de Leon and Lomo Iberico, various types of tortillas, pan con tomate, and assorted croquetas. But their modern interpretations are even better - both times we tried things from the specials menu that were out of this world, and not just proteins. The Fennel, Pear, and Radish salad with dill at the Adelaide St location was my mother-in-law's favorite dish of the evening, and there was a lot of competition for that spot.

The wine list is phenomenal, too, with a wide range for all tastes and price ranges. The Vilosell 2011 is one of my favorites, 5661343 having had it twice now.

And the service and atmosphere are excellent - lively, informal, but very engaging. Service is mostly from behind the bar, with plates delivered rapid-fire to your perch as soon as they're hand-finished by the head (or maybe sous?) chef. The cooks are a lot of fun to watch, and everything happens out in the open, so if you enjoy seeing high-end cookery in action, try to grab a spot near the middle so you can see as many line stations as possible. It reminded me a little of Traif in Brooklyn, except each cook actually has a foot or two of elbow room at Barrafina. Still, the energy is contagious, and you may find yourself ordering more of their inventive dishes just to see them prepped and fired right in front of you.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
