Wonderful NY-style pizza across from Eastern Market! This place has been on my to-do list for a very long time, so to say the least that I was excited is a true understatement. Husband was equally 6226798 stoked to try it out. Who wouldn't be with all the media recognition it has received?
So, we came around 6pm on a Friday, and there was no line. I was anticipating the long lines out the door that others have described, 6226798 but we didn't encounter that. Consider ourselves lucky. However, once inside, there were quite a few patrons eating their slices and pies with enjoyment. You could just see it on their faces.
We queued up, and the wait for pizza slices was about 15 minutes..not bad at all! We went with 2 slices of pepperoni, 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee and 1 slice of cheese to share. The specialty of the day was Quattro Formaggio, but they were out unfortunately.
First out was the cheese slice. We each took a few bites, and really enjoyed it. The chewy crust that isn't too thin or thick provided the perfect canvas for the sauce and cheese. We liked that it wasn't dripping 6226798 with oil and grease, so it was easily digestible. A few minutes later, our pepperoni slices came out. We each ate 1, and they were much oilier and greasier than the cheese. It wasn't a big problem as long as you let it drip. As if the slices weren't great to begin with, the addition of red chili flakes a sprinkle of parmesan elevated the flavor of the crust even more. A must do if you're not afraid of spice.
To round out the meal, we split a 6226798 plain cannoli. We weren't fans of it, even though the filling was good. We didn't like that they used an egg roll wrapper, or so it seemed. We're used to the pastry dough version with a more delicate yet not overly fried texture.
Great pizza, and friendly and efficient staff. This is the real deal, and if you can't make it to NY, this is a great compromise. Munch away! :)7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
