sicians to withhold it, especially when they know they'll just get it
elsewhere."Even psychiatrists can feel trapped by a system that pushes them
to opt for a quick fix rather than a long-term solution."Physicians have
less and less time to spend with patients or may see them
only occasionally, when their talk therapist sends them in for drugs," noted
Dr. Harold J. Bursztajn, a forensic psychiatrist and an associate clinical
professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School."Anxiety can almost always
be treated in other ways, but too many doctors are too rushed
to search for the root of a patient's problem when there's a
supposed solution that seems quick, easy and effective."Once a doctor prescribes
the drug, follow-up care may be lacking, as Kim in Pennsylvania discovered.
The energetic then-20-year-old college student started having frequent anxiety
attacks and visited a doctor, who had previously prescribed generic Xanax
for her to use as needed for occasional anxiety. This time, he
put her on it daily. The drug soothed her panic but made her
so drowsy that she began to oversleep and miss classes. Her GPA
dropped, and she took to avoiding her friends. After a month, the
anxiety returned in between doses."I was taking it religiously, but the
feelings were three times as strong," she said. The next semester, she took
a medical leave of absence from school and holed up in her
room at her parents' house.Kim discussed her situation with th
A woman died Thursday after her scarf and her hair got caught
in the teeth of a Montreal metro escalator and the scarf then
apparently strangled her.The Montreal Gazette reports that the incident
occurred when the 48-year-olds scarf got caught in the escalator Thursday
morning. The womans scarf got caught in the escalator and then she bent
down to try to get it out and her hair got stuck,
too, Constable Jean-Pierre Brabant told The Gazette.A bystander called 911
and by the time police arrived, she was declared dead. The Gazette said
she apparently was strangled by the scarf.Bob Lamle, a spokesman for Montreal's
ambulance service, said Thursday he had never seen anything like it in
his 30-year career. The firefighters, first responders, got there first and
began resuscitation efforts. Our technicians arrived and took over but it
was not viable and the woman was declared dead, Lamle said. There is
an emergency stop button at the top and bottom of the escalator,
as in all escalators serving the system. Constable Brabant said he did
not know whether anyone pressed the stop button while the woman, who
was not identified, struggled.Metro users were shocked by the news that
someone could die while doing something most of them do several times
a day.Personally, Im really traumatized because I use that escalator every
day, 13-year-old Philippe Silyutintold The Gazette as he was standing with
friends outside the Fabre station entrance while police in

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">APEither Olive Garden really loves parents or really hates kids, because
on Feb. 7 the casual Italian dining chain will be dishing out
free baby-sitting for any parents who dine at one of its participating
locations across the country. In an interesting promotional pairing, the
chain, owned by Orlando-based Darden Restaurants, has teamed up with My
Gym, a chain of children's activity centers. Before dining at Olive Garden,
parents can drop off their kids at any one of 145 participating
My Gym locations and return with their Olive Garden receipt to have
their baby-sitting tab covered. The one-night only special, called Parents
Night Out, will run from 6 to 9 p.m. but could vary
by location, and will promote the chains two-for $25 dinner menu. Although,
a spokeswoman told the Orlando Sentinel that diners are welcome to try
out other menu items also."With busy family schedules and everyone always
on the go, it's challenging for parents to find time for a
date night out," Jay Spenchian, executive vice president of marketing for
Olive Garden said in a release. My Gym requires a cash deposit, on
the off-chance leaving your children there is not enough of a deposit,
which will be refunded when customers show their Olive Garden receipts.
Space will be limited to approximately 30 children per participating location,
and reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. So try
to get there early.Olive Garden is also using social media f
hursday, after Yanukovych took an
unexpected sick leave and told opposition leaders that it was now up
to them to make concessions. This week Yanukovych accepted the resignation
of Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and the parliament, which he controls, and
rescinded harsh anti-protest legislation that sparked last week's violence.Yanukovych's
allies in parliament also passed a bill offering to grant amnesty to
protesters, but only after they vacate scores of government buildings they
have seized across the country. Yanukovych signed the bill into law on
Friday, but the opposition has rejected the offe, saying it amounts to
Yanukovych taking demonstrators as hostages. It has insisted that protesters
must be freed without any conditions.
