An unmarried teacher at a Roman Catholic middle school in Montana who
was fired after getting pregnant says she is pursuing legal action.Patrick
Haggarty, the superintendent of Catholic schools for the diocese, said Tuesday
that Butte Central teacher Shaela Evenson "made a willful decision to violate
the terms of her contract," which requires her to respect the moral
and religious teachings of the Catholic Church in both her professional
and personal life."The Catholic moral teaching is that the sacrament of
marriage is a holy union between a man and a woman," Haggarty
said. "And we certainly believe and we teach our children who attend
our schools about the sacrament of marriage. That's as old as our
church. Not only do we teach that to the children kindergarten through
12th grade, but we're held to that standard as well."Evenson told The
Montana Standard that she is pursuing legal action, but deferred other questions
to her lawyer. An email from her attorney, Brian Butler of Cincinnati,
said he was not available to answer questions Tuesday.Butte Central elementary
and middle school Principal Kerrie Hellyer told the Standard that Haggarty
dismissed Evenson on Jan. 10. She taught sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade
literature and physical education for just over eight years."She was an
excellent teacher," Hellyer said. The diocese doesn't investigate the personal
lives of its employees, but it was forced to act when it
learned about the pr
. Garcia
said authorities don't know the type of weapon used in the killings.Rivera
said investigators found signs of forced entry via a window but that
it was unclear if it was recent damage. Investigators don't know if
anything was taken from the home."It is baffling," Rivera said of the
case.The family's father a mechanical engineer for Cameron, a Houston-based
oil and gas industry equipment manufacturer last worked Jan. 24. Cameron
spokeswoman Sharon Sloan confirmed the man had worked for the company but
declined to comment further.Garcia said the search for a suspect continues
and he urged anyone with information on the case to call Crime

bring these evildoers to justice," he said.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">HOUSTON Investigators are baffled by the fatal shootings last week of
a "quiet family" of four, including two young boys, at their suburban
Houston home.Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the slayings
nor identified any suspects, Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia said Tuesday.
All four victims, including the boys aged 7 and 9, were shot
in the head. The names of the victims have not been released as
authorities tried to contact relatives of the family. Authorities said the
husband and wife were naturalized U.S. citizens who had emigrated from China.
They did not say when the family arrived in the United States.Garcia
said deputies went to the family's Cypress home last Thursday after the
husband's co-workers became concerned when he hadn't shown up for work for
several days. Deputies found the back door open and inside discovered a
"horrific crime scene," Garcia said.Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt.
Felipe Rivera said the victims were found in their bedrooms. He declined
to give other details of the crime scene, only saying they had
not been tied up and that no weapons were found at the
home."We have no other information that will speak to a motive, as
to why this occurred," Garcia said. "From all indications, they were a
quiet family, they were the average family. ... I am bothered by
the loss of life of two children."Autopsies done by the Harris County
Institute of Forensic Sciences have ruled the deaths as homicide
 ," Bradshaw said.That's when a sergeant
fired three times, once to the torso and twice on the lower
part of the body. The man was taken to Delray Medical Center,
where he died. The injured police officer and the teen were also taken
to the hospital. Their conditions were not available. Bradshaw said the
10-year-old boy injured himself trying to go under the gate to get
away from the man.The sheriff said investigators are trying to figure out
the man's identity and to get some background information on about him.Bradshaw
said the man was "obviously on some kind of narcotics to act
like this.""The deputies had to do what they had to do to
disable this guy so he didn't get into this gated community and
wreak havoc in there," Bradshaw said. The incident is reminiscent of a 2012
attack in Miami in which a naked man attacked a homeless man
and chewed off much of his face. The man, Rudy Eugene, was
shot and killed by a Miami police officer. Witnesses said he had
been swinging from a light pole minutes before the attack. Lab tests
found only marijuana in his system. The victim in the Miami attack, Ronald
Poppo, lost his left eye, his nose and most of the surrounding
skin.
