CLARKSBURG, W.Va. A 300-foot cellphone tower collapsed Saturday and minutes
later a smaller tower fell, killing two contractors and a firefighter, authorities
said.The contractors were tethered to the larger tower when it collapsed
in Clarksburg, State Police Cpl. Mark Waggamon said. A firefighter with
the Nutter Fort Fire Department was killed when he was walking from
his vehicle to the scene.Two other contractors working on the larger tower
were hurt and taken to a hospital. Waggamon described their injuries as
serious but not life-threatening.Waggamon said three of the workers were
more than 60 feet up on the tower. One of those workers
was killed along with a co-worker who was about 20 feet up
when the tower toppled.Two other workers at the site were not injured.Waggamon
said the weight of the collapsed tower put stress on guide wires
to the smaller tower.The crew was doing maintenance to strengthen the tower's
support when the accident occurred, Waggamon said. He said the federal Occupational
Safety and Health Administration will investigate.The towers are owned by
SBA Communications, which hired workers from S&S Communications to remove
the tall tower's diagonal supports and replace them with new ones. Phone
messages left with the companies were not returned Saturday evening.Steven
Thompson, a member of the Summit Park Volunteer Fire Department, said about
three dozen people from eight fire departments in the area responded. He

cuts of recent years.Education Secretary Arne Duncan told reporters Thursday
that he also believes strong mental health support systems in schools are
important. But he said schools are doing a "fantastic" job with school
security and often schools are the safest place in a community.He blames
easy access to guns as a root cause of the problem, but
that's a contention that doesn't have widespread agreement as gun control
continues to be a hotly debated topic.

worse -- in 2009, Chuck bit then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg's finger.Chuck

WASHINGTON There's been no real reduction in the number of U.S.
school shootings despite increased security put in place after the rampage
at a Connecticut elementary school in December 2012 left 20 children and
six educators dead.An Associated Press analysis finds that there have been
at least 11 school shootings this academic year alone, in addition to
other cases of gun violence in school parking lots and elsewhere on
campus when classes were not in session.Last August, for example, a gun
discharged in a 5-year-old's backpack while students were waiting for the
opening bell in the cafeteria at Westside Elementary School in Memphis.
No one was hurt.Experts say the rate of school shootings is statistically
unchanged since the mid- to late-1990s, yet still remains troubling.Ronald
Stephens, executive director of the National School Safety Center, said
there have been about 500 school-associated violent deaths in the past 20
years.The numbers don't include a string of recent shootings at colleges
and universities. Just last week, a man was shot and critically wounded
at the Palm Bay Campus of Eastern Florida State College, according to
police.Bill Bond, who was principal at Heath High School in West Paducah
in 1997 when a 14-year-old freshman fired on a prayer group, killing
three female students and wounding five, sees few differences in how shootings
