y. Say your household has two vehicles
that log 15,000 miles per year. If you change the oil and
filter every 3,000 miles at $40 each, youll pay $400 per year.
Drive 7,500 miles between oil changes and save $240 per year.'Flush the
engine coolant.'Older cars may need a coolant flush every two years or
30,000 miles; many newer ones have extended-life coolant, which can last
up to 100,000 miles. A sweet odor inside the car can signal
a problem.'Those tires wont make it.'Take a quarter and stick it upside
downwith George Washingtons face toward youinto the tread (shown). Replace
tires when the tread reaches inchroughly the length of the quarters
rim to Washingtons hairline. (Check our tire buying guide and Ratings.)'Your
struts are shot.'Look at the strut. If theres evidence of fluid running
down its side, park the car on level ground, press down on
the corner of the car with the worn strut, and let go.
If the car bounces more than once, theres a problem.Bottom line. Check
the owners manual for recommended maintenance intervals. If a mechanic suggests
changing filters and fluids more frequently than the manufacturer recommends,
ask for an explanation and consider getting a second opinion. Need an
estimate? Go to our car repairs section to find repair estimates in

with the tapering process because
they don't realize how dependent on the medication they may have become.Unfortunately,
relatively little is being done in this country to increase awareness of
benzo pitfallsand for now, too many women are learning the hard way.
Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supports more education
of health care professionals about benzo misuse, along with increased monitoring
of prescription drugs such as these, for the most part, painkillers get
more attention in the medical community. After contacting doctor after doctor,
last year Emily found a nurse-practitioner knowledgeable about benzo tapering
who helped her cross over to generic Valium. She's still going through
the process, with bouts of anxiety when she cuts a dose."But at
least now I know why," she said. "And I'm getting better." She
hopes to be off benzos altogether within the year. Now living with her
fianc, Kim is also working with a nurse-practitioner to taper off benzos.
She has reenrolled in school but at times still struggles to get
by."My body and my brain have to learn how to handle even
the most minor stresses on their own all over again, like driving
on busy roads," she said.So far, Jenna is the only one of
the women in these cases who has made it completely off benzos.
About a year after her trip to the ER, she married and
discovered that she was pregnant. She'd been trying to taper on her
own, but knowing that the drug

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">Jan. 31, 2014 - A Syrian demonstrator is wrapped in a Syrian
flag carrying the picture of President Assad as they shout pro-government
slogans during a demonstration outside the United Nations headquarters in
Geneva, Switzerland.APGENEVA U.N.-Arab League mediator Lakhdar Brahimi
tried to put a positive spin Friday on the first face-to-face meetings
in three years between Syria's warring sides, suggesting they reconvene
Feb. 10 for a fresh attempt at bridging the chasm between them. Both
sides have agreed to meet again, Brahimi told reporters at the end
of the eighth consecutive day of intense and bitter negotiations in Switzerland
that have produced no tangible results.Almost 1,900 more people -- including
at least 430 civilians -- have been killed in Syria during the
talks alone, Syrian activists said, underscoring the urgency of finding
a way of ending the civil war.Brahimi described 10 areas of "common
ground" between the two sides that might provide a little bit of
optimism."Progress is very slow indeed, but the sides have engaged in an
acceptable manner. This is a modest beginning on which we can build,"
Brahimi told reporters at the U.N.'s Palais des Nations."The gaps between
the sides remain wide; there is no use pretending otherwise. Nevertheless,
during our discussions, I observed a little bit of common ground -
perhaps more than the two sides realize or recognize," he said. "Things

NEW YORK It's puppy love for the record books. The Labrador
retriever was the nation's most popular dog breed last year for a
23rd year in a row.The American Kennel Club said Friday that's the
longest that any breed has been top dog since the organization's founding
in 1884.German shepherds, golden retrievers, beagles and bulldogs are holding
steady in the top-five pack. Yorkshire terriers, boxers, poodles, Rottweilers
and dachshunds round out the leading 10. It's the same as last
year. But the French bulldog is newly on their heels. It's now the
11th most popular purebred. That's up from 14th last year
and 58th in 2002.The poodle had a 22-year reign as number 1
some decades ago.The rankings reflect newly registered dogs, mostly puppies.
