NEW YORK Four people are in custody on drug charges after
police executed search warrants at three apartments in New York City.Police
say undisclosed quantities of heroin and marijuana were found Tuesday night
in the apartments in a lower Manhattan building. They say three of
the people lived in the building.All four three men and
a woman face charges of criminal possession of a
controlled substance. Two of the suspects also face charges of criminal
use of drug paraphernalia.Police wouldn't say why they had search warrants
for the apartments. They say that "at this time," they aren't linking
the arrests to their investigation into the death of Oscar-winning actor
Philip Seymour Hoffman.Hoffman was found dead Sunday in his apartment with
a syringe in his arm.

calls the attempt by a U.N. committee to interfere with its teaching
on abortion and contraception in a damning report on the priestly sex
abuse scandal.The U.N. report on Wednesday said the Vatican should change
its rules on abortion and teach sexual education in Catholic schools to
ensure children's rights and their access to health care are guaranteed.The
Vatican said in a statement that it remains committed to defending and
protecting the rights of children but that it regrets that the committee
had attempted "to interfere with Catholic Church teaching on the dignity
of human person and in the exercise of religious freedom."
