I don't know of the administrative end of things, but judging from a
couple of people I who know have been date raped, even if the victim
doesn't feel too ashamed like it's their fault (something that's
quite common.. in some other societies, rape victims are shunned or
even killed, after all), they usually still feel uncomfortable
telling anyone but close friends about it and don't want to make a
big deal out of it.. so the vast majority of rapes go unreported.
It's a really sad situation.
And even when they ARE reported, I'd imagine that they usually would
rather keep it quiet and not go to the media.
Still, I don't know anything specific about the situation here at
MIT, and I'll defer that answer to someone who knows more than I do.
