DormCon elections are coming up this week. The meeting will be held
on Thursday, April 11 at 6 PM in McCormick. Here are some answers to
frequently asked questions:

Q: Who can hold a DormCon office?
A: All undergraduate residents of MIT dormitories shall be eligible to
serve as officers, with the following exceptions: Officers of the
Undergraduate Association, officers of the Association of Student
Activities, officers of Inter-Fraternity Council, and officers of the
Panhellenic Association.

Q: When does one have to declare one's candidacy?
A: You can let me know in advance if you'd like, we'll also be taking
nominations from the floor at Thursday's meeting.

Q: What are your election rules?
A: We have rather few. Basically, each undergrad dorm resident gets
one vote. Any dorm resident who doesn't attend the meeting
automatically gives their vote to the president of their dorm (or the
president's designated proxy) to cast. That's about all. We have no
campaigning rules, no special balloting, it's pretty laid-back.

Q: Who can attend the meeting?
A: This meeting, like all DormCon meetings, is open to the entire MIT
community.

Q: When do the newly elected officers take office?
A: You see, that's not written down anywhere, so we'll negotiate that
with the new people. It'll be some time before the seniors who
currently hold office graduate this spring.

Q: What positions are available and what are their responsibilities?
A: I was hoping you' ask that. Here's a brief sketch of the
responsibilities, the full description can be found in Article III of
our constitution: http://web.mit.edu/dormcon/www/const.html

-President: The top office. Runs DormCon meetings and interfaces with
the administration and other student governments. Serves on several
committees that deal with dormitory related issues. For more
information, contact mcain@mit.edu

-VP: Assists the president by attending committee meetings, and
helping to run DormCon meetings if the president cannot do so.

-R/O Chair: From now on, we'll be electing this position in the fall,
but we're having one more spring election to cover this fall's R/O.
The R/O chair is in charge of the individual dorm rush chairs and
serves on committees that affect R/O, such as the UA Committee of
Housing and Orientation and the Residence System Implementation Team.

-Secretary: keeps minutes.

-Treasurer: Keeps track of finances.

All of the above are considered members of the executive council and
are asked to attend monthly exec meetings (over dinner).

Q: What do I do if I have questions?
A: You can e-mail me <mcain@mit.edu> or dormcon-exec@mit.edu with any
questions you might have.
