Graduate Student Council Officers Election Results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are very pleased to announce to you the newly elected GSC officers for
Year 2002-2003.
Sanith Wijesinghe is our newly elected President. Sanith is a
penultimate-year PhD student in Aeronautics and Astronautical Engineering.
Sanith served as Director of the GSC Career Fair in 1997, the Chair of the
Academics, Research and Career Committee in 1998-1999, and as
Vice-President of the GSC in 1999-2000. He has also served in a various
different committees working on Institute Policies on sexual harassment,
academic policy career issues and many others. Sanith was also a recipient
of the WILLIAM L. STEWART, JR. AWARD at the MIT Awards Convocation n May 2000.
John Lock is our newly elected Vice-President. John is a third-year PhD
student in Chemical Engineering. This past year, John was the GSC
Activities Committee Chair and Executive Officer of GSC-Sloan TechLink.
John has been very active in organizing events in his department and
between departments while he was a Representative of the Chemical
Engineering Department in 2000-2001.
Vijay Shilpiekandula is our newly elected Secretary. Vijay is a first-year
MS student in Mechanical Engineering. This past year, Vijay served as an
editor of the Graduate Student Newsletter and as a staff writer of the
Tech. Vijay is also actively involved in Ashdown House's student government.
Alvar Saenz Otero is our newly elected Treasurer. Alvar is a fourth-year
PhD student in Aeronautics and Astronautical Engineering. Alvar is an
undergraduate alum (Class of 98). In the past few years he was actively
involved with ASA (Association of Student Activities, a joint committee of
the UA and GSC) serving as Graduate Member at Large and as President this
past year.
Sanith, John Vijay, and Alvar were elected last evening at the April
General Council Meeting of the GSC.
Transition starts now and will end in a month.
