I just want to thank Martin for so clearly crystallizing the
way so many of us have been conditioned to construe power
a.k.a. the phallus. Which is *exactly* why some students
felt we needed a smash-the-patriarchy bake sale and installation
artwork that took that very revered shape last Friday in honor of
International Women's day.
Thank you Martin, for spelling it out so clearly for us all!
And I wish I could thank mr/ms anon for their contribution as well,
but they didn't have the courage to introduce themself as Martin
correctly, if rather ineloquently, pointed out... (remember, nothing
to fear, but fear itself, anon!)
And while you are complaining to the jud board on the Rhett/Brar
inssue to insure that each of your unique perspectives are heard by
the dedicated and tireless committee chair, you could also write to
the Tech and ask why they don't have the picture of that lovely
artwork that was featured in Tuesday's paper on their web-site.
Surely it could stand along with the bad taste photos, couldn't it?
Does this omission have anything to do with... oh, I don't know....
The Patriarchy, perhaps?
A last thank you goes out to Josie for reminding us that a woman (or girl)
who has the nerve to ask for something is by definition being a *bitch*
(especially if the thing she is asking for is in any tiny way connected to
respect.) After all, it is a man's world and by what rights do we gals
go around thinking our interests/feelings/thoughts matter?
And remember, only *you* can smash the patriarchy!
Peace.
Aimee Smith
PS don't dare let patriarchy get you down!
Read Lydia Sargent's column called Hotel Satire - you will feel *much* better!

PPS I would hate to leave Justin out... does the expression "busting balls"
imply that:
1) all women are lazy?
or
2) women are only being effective when they are phyically harming men's
testicles?
if it is the former, well, I suppose we gals should all just drop out right
now.
If it is the latter, I hope you only meant in the context of self-defense, and
if so,m that leaves us ladies with a lot of down time...
