Despite being amused by recieving $10 if Rhett wins, I am not actually
motivated by increasing amount of "bread and circuses" that I am
"given" by student government. Too many candidates emphasize this sort
of stuff. I am quite capable of procuring food and drink myself, and
I'm not really that hard up for money. I can leave campus for concerts
and get a much wider selection. And so on.
What I want from student government (for example) is to get the damn
housing/CP/admins out my face when I host a party with said food and
drink. Or to increase the amount of common space on campus (I really
wish someone was fighting departments who take over and enclose
formerly public space, like the MechE lounge in building 3 first
floor, but I don't have time). Or make sure the crowding problem gets
solved in a reasonable way (the UA seems to have done a decent job
with this). Those sorts of real problems.
In short, I don't want your free stuff. I can get my own stuff. I want
someone to effectively represent my views as an undergraduate to the
rest of MIT. Not someone to beg for money or build a community for me.
