MIT prides itself in fostering an environment where people think
"outside the box." Creative, innovative and ingenious approaches are
supposedly encouraged here. If anybody is violating the "spirit of the
election" it would be whichever body chooses to enact arbitrary rules
and apply them retroactively against a specific candidate. The
decision to disqualify Creighton / Brar goes against the UA's stated
goal of listening to the student body's concerns. To summarily dismiss
the votes of so many undergraduates, regardless of whether they win,
tarnishes the legitimacy of the entire process.
Damn it, this is MIT. Why is it so hard to run an election? Every high
school across America manages it just fine. When was the last time
anybody remembers a professional and smoothly run election?
