actually, for me it was Dan "powerless, innane [sic] existence" Liston that
elevated this from an amusing spectacle to something worthy of a piece of my teeny
salary. there's nothing like power-tripping feeb to make want to do my part.
so i'd like to donate $20.
as a side note: please someone correct me if i'm wrong, but as best i can tell
after some quick web research, it's not just technicality, loophole, or lack of
moral fiber that allows the uap to spend the bush fund on herself, it's the
*purpose* of the fund. a lot of students have to work to put themselves through
school, and they couldn't afford to cut back on work to the extent required by a
ua presidency. who wants to lose out on the best candidates merely because they're
actually independent enough to support themselves financially? this is one of the
reasons why we used to argue whether the EIC of the tech should be paid - you
don't want to lose good people because they can't dedicate a significant amount of
time to an organization. not to mention the non-financial costs they incur in the
form of lower grades, less research experience, ashitty love life, etc.
so i'm pretty sure there's not much merit to the moaning about how this money
should be used for the good of the student body - as if, mentioned plenty of times
already yet somehow not managing to sink in, a $10 gift to over 50% of the
undergrads wasn't to their benefit. i think the number of students they can dredge
up to spend 1.5 hours doing some sociology experiment over at sloan for $10 goes
to show just how much $10 means to some college kids.
