As an editor for the Tech at the time TEAL was being discussed,
I kept tabs on how the discussion went down, and my recollection
is similar to Dustin's. The UA "insiders" hadn't planned any
opposition to the plan until the student body objected. To their credit,
the UA did fight to move TEAL, but only after the students forced their hand.
Good end, poor means.
One side question: Why haven't the other two UAP candidates spoken out?
Rhett's campaign is essentially saying that $10 is worth more to most students
than the UA. How do the other tickets plan to counter that claim?
Students can't "get over the idea that the UA has done nothing" for them
without some evidence to the contrary.
If the other candidates can't argue that they'll provide more benefit
to the students than a couple lunches at Gooseberry's, Rhett deserves to win.
