Having been on the UA council when that all (TEAL/5th Fl. Student Center)
went down, I can tell you one thing. UA insiders didn't care. Heck, most
people were in favor of it, and were talking about the logistics (should we
get a faster elevator?) However, students were quite peeved that the
administration was trying to jack one of the few common study areas around
and harassed their representatives. It has been the only time in my third
year of being here that I've seen the UA do something concrete to benefit
students, and only then, grudgingly, at the demands of the electorate.
I know one of the candidates for UAP. They are a UA insider and have caused
far more trouble to other people than benefit to anyone.(but themselves) I
intend to sell my vote. Why? Cause I'm sick of a student government that
exists for itself.
Rhett might not be your most mainstream candidate, but he's a good man. In
the crap-throwing contest in last year's elections, he was probably the one
candidate who didn't cause trouble. I should know: Zhe Scott and I headed up
the Election Commission last year.
Vote for who you think is going to do something right for you, not for them.
And don't ride Rhett for cutting you out of the loop with his pork offer. He
cut everyone in who wants some. America, Japan, Germany, the UK...everyone
has pork. Grab a fork.

let me remind you of one thing that the UA did effectively
The UA stopped the idea of the TEAL/Studio classroom
going into 5th floor of the Student Center dead in its tracks
Despite the fact that this was Larry Bacow's
idea (the Chancellor at the time)
That happened because Peter Schulman, Allison Neizmik, and Jaime Devereaux
really did their homework and were adriot in interacting with the
administration.
If you think that wasn't a tour de force of poltical skill, then you haven't
been at MIT for 31 years.
