Please foward to your constituents:

A petition is being circulated, supporting Dr. Vest's decision
to invite Mr. James Wolfensohn, to our 2002 Commencement. Signuatures
will be presented to the President's Office.

Below is appended a copy of the petition.
-----

We the undersigned support Dr. Vest's invitation for Mr. James
Wolfensohn, president of the World Bank. We believe that ideas
should be expressed and debated, not censored. We believe that Mr.
Wolfensohn's Commencement address will spark widespread campus dialogue
on the role of developed nations in world economic development. We
believe that Mr. Wolfensohn's presence will help break the perennial
MIT apathy toward the world. With the current controversy, students
are made aware of the development issues facing the world today.
This awareness is healthy and central to the development of the
socially engaged engineer/scientist.
