Good Evening Members of the MIT community...
Please take a moment of your time to read this email and take the
appropriate action.
It has come to my attention that a web site within the MIT community is
copying the
idea of the well known amihot.com and other websites such as
this. However, instead of using
people who submit their photographs to these website, it is using your
picture. It supposedly
has everybody's picture at MIT.(I and my friends have seen our pictures on
this website)
[hotornot.mit.edu username: guest password : access]
This concerns me in two ways....
1. I don't really want my picture up on a web site without my expressed
consent.
2. I have friends that are NON-JOKINGLY throwing around the words suing,
lawyers, and legal action.
So the reason for this email is not to chastise the people who thought that
it would be funny to do this,
it is to ask them to take it down. If you know of who has put this up,
please let them know to take it down.
This way no names are brought up.
However, being the school that we are, I am sure that about 80% of you who
will read this email can in twenty
minutes find out where these people live, what year they are, and all the
other information that comes along with
an IP address and a name.
Additionally since this is run within MIT, I am sure that if there is legal
action brought on by some party, that
the MIT - Network team can find out.
Thus, please take a moment to check it out and be as disgusted as I was and
take the appropriate action.
