Though I can see how it might be easy to think so, as a liberal.
When Ronald Reagen was elected in 1980, I thought that was it. I asked
my mom when we were going to move. "Move?" she asked. "Yeah, move, like
to Canada or something." was my reply. I wasn't being smug, I honestly
believed that with a gun-toting cowboy in office, it was only a matter of
time before it was nuke city. Needless to say, it never happened.
George Bush is worse that Reagen in some ways. I think he may actually
have a brain, while I maintain to this day that for all practical political
purposes, Reagen does not. I do not like what I have seen and read pertaining
to the stuff in Bush's head. He is very conservative. He will doubtless
appoint a few justices to the supreme court (this is the scariest thing about
having another conservative elected). He will push policies I vehemently
oppose. But the world will not end, even if he screws up big time, which he
probably won't. At least, in terms of War, Pestilence, etc.
None of this applies if somehow Qualye takes the oval office, specifically
the title. It is within the power of a man with practically no political
experience to royally fuck things up. Our vice president, I believe, is
that man. Let's hope Bush stays healthy.
