Good guess, Beth, but in fact our policy does pay replacement
cost. :-)

We lost because our policy has a Limitation of Liability on jewelry of
$1,000, even though the policy itself covers $15,000 of personal
property. This bit us because:

(1) I specifically asked the insurance agent before buying the policy
whether we needed to list specific items, and she said no.

(2) They were supposed to have sent a cover letter with the policy
which explains the limitation of liability on jewelry, but did not.

(3) All but one item that was stolen was jewelry.

To be fair, they did send us the policy jacket which described the
limitation of liability (aka "the fine print") and I did read it, so
yes, we should have noticed this problem on our own. But since I had
asked the agent about THIS VERY ISSUE for precisely this reason,
somehow we just missed it. After all, the reason I called a
professional agent is so that I wouldn't have to read all the legalese
in the policy (which in fact they told me I didn't really want to
bother with).

So, generally speaking, we're pissed.
