I submit that the search for a meaning for life is enough to give a life
a meaning.

If you are looking for a meaning to *your* personal life, then it seems
that working to improve the condition of your fellow man (and woman) is
a reasonable goal. Whether that means working in a soup kitchen one day
a week or dedicating your entire life to something (see the article in the
NYT op-ed page from Tues or Wed ``A Man called Lemkin'') or donating a
certain percentage of your income to charity, it can give *your* life a
meaning in terms of its impact on others.

If you are looking for a meaning for *everyone's* life, there's no answer.
I haven't thought about it as hard as you have, since I believe 70% in
Judaism (this number subject to seasonal variation); but I couldn'
find any flaws when I went through the same basic train of thought this
summer.
