I've had a few occassions to do a hell of a lot of work in a shortish space of
time (we're generally talking about one week here) and I can recommend the
following course of action.

If you're like me and are totally unproductive without a good 8 hours in the
sack behind you then try 28-hour days. instead of the usual up 16 and down 8,
you can squeeze up 20 and down 8. Obviously after about 3 days you start to 
get seriously out-of-phase with everyone else, but this has hidden advantages
such as the library being empty and so on.

I haven't done this for more than a week at a stretch and only with significant
layoff between times, and your gp would probably have a fit if he knew, but it
works!
