at least she outlasted tricky dick

the person most responsible for my political views, my attitude of the
nature of humanity, and my willingness to attack mainstream thought died
last night at 8:30.
one of the most bizarre ironies of this is that she was a crotchety, old
stereotypical jewish mother who took advantage of people, complained a lot,
was bizarre to visit, went through cycles of not wanting to see us and then
demanding a visit, etc.
but at the same time, she was a socialist labor organizer in the 40's, went
to college when women weren't supposed to, talked to me about the authors i
read, introduced me to chomsky's work, wrote me the most amazing letters,
was willing to come to michigan for my high school graduation, listened
when i talked, and was unwavering in her politics.
my grandmother was an amazing lady. and she outlasted tricky dick by a
day. hopefully, so will her memory.
et lux perpetua, luceat eis.
