Re: disappointment and confusion

the people i know who've done some pretty serious vandalism or theft have
generally either not understood what the act does to the community/workforce
that they've victimized, or felt that they are above the common vandal/theif
therefore their crime means something other than hurting someone for their own \amusement.

my little sister (a senior in high school, going to yale next year for soccer
and architecture, dynamic and hardworking kid) led her group of friends into
a bunch of petty crimes. they stole a christmas tree from some lot in which
they were sold, then they went to the supermarket and stole a summersausage.
they then strung up the stolen items in front of the school.
she didn't understand why i was so angry with her. she's not stupid either,
just extraordinarily self centered. after a bunch of us explained where
the X-mas tree came from and how the loss of it hurt the small business man,
she got really angry and kind of unmderstood.\
it offended her that we cared though.
