Why not 26 hours per day? Well, if you wait for a few hundred million
years, the length of a day is gradually increasing (has to do with the
fact that the gravitational forces which cause tidal bulges causes a
transfer of rotational momentum and dissipation of rotational energy,
hence the earth's rotation slows).
