I used to also.  I found two things that helped:

1.  not really being too hung up on time.  Not everyone can do this, and
if you have to be at a class at a certain time, it can be tricky.  I have
a flexible work schedule so this wasn't an issue for me.  I also found that
once I adjusted, I could usually manage to be where I needed to be within
about 15 minutes of the correct time, frequently earlier than later.

2. When I went through a period of time where I had to catch planes
somewhat frequently, I bought a small travel alarm that's slightly
smaller than a credit card, and about 4 times as thick.  I've managed
to hold onto it for 18 months so far without losing it or destroying
it.  I've found that I've generally done much better with pocket
timepieces than I have with wrist watches, and because it's something
that I have to actively make an effort to take out and look at, I
still don't get as hung up on time as I might.
