Oh, shut up, Jon. You are the one who is being rude. I think that
Henry's question is perfectly valid.
I do not know Andrew's reasons for requiring that any girl he is
interested in be Jewish, and probably could not be convinced that he
is correct in putting such requirements upon himself, but I do like to
think that I am capable of at least understanding them a little more
than I do now.
And even if, as you suggest, Henry does understand Andrew's reasons
but disagrees, is it so terrible a thing to have one's beliefs and
preferences (whether religious or otherwise) questioned? If they are
at least half-way reasonable and self-consistent, they should stand up
to that; if not, I think one should reconsider them. I am not
claiming to be a militant agnostic ("I don't know, and neither do
you!"), but I do think that blindly following unquestioned beliefs is
wrong. But I think this is a side issue.
So, are you going to tell me that I am also being rude and am
incapable of understanding his reasons? Or will you consider humoring
us all with a word or two of explanation?
