any idea *why* the sudden jump? from what I know of BBN management techniques, they probably sold off something useful :-( so it could be short term, not having other evidence. BBN has this problem -- incredible diversity :-) They have small groups that do wonderful stuff, and overall have no goal or mission, and just don't do very well at being a large company...
