on another tack...i've been reading through coatrack and ping lately,
and i've seen one discussion of religion in ping. (about five looooong
ones in coatrack). yet people -- even the people who're making the first
postings -- keep saying that their religions, with all their
restrictions and mindfucks, are worth it. i't weird. most people i know
either mold their religions around themselves, or get screwed by it. of
course, that's some of those same people...
why is it worthwhile? the only flat answer i've seen has no logic in it,
and is based on the assumption that some higher deity with someone's
betterment in mind is the actual motivating force behind some laws
created a very very long time ago, some of which are fairly commonly
understood to be based on what was sanitarily safe to eat at the time.
i don't get it.
