Well, they do have the president of a foreign country speaking at graduation, so I imagine that they may want to make sure that no one sneaks a little surprise under the stage that might go off, say Friday morning, or something like that. Just a thought, it does sound pretty bogus to be worrying about that so much before the event, though.
