For quite a long time I've thought of organising masses of notes
into a useful volume to launch an annual to be called
something like _Domestic Utility_ or perhaps _Domestic Utility at MIT_.
It would be a kind of operating manual for dealing quickly and
correctly (the first time) with one's physical domicile, be it a
closet, dorm room, temp crash space sans owners, apartment or house.
There would also be included amusing and true cases of not-correct fixes,
near disasters and a FAQ-like quick-reference-section for emergencies.
The majority of the source material would be campus-based and
alum contributed (no age limit would encourage solutions from other
generations' persepctives and experiences) and should include
graphics of all kinds.
There would be a glossary and a directory of local-to-MIT resources
for community members new to Cambridge.
(And yes, I know there is a not-famous painting "Domestic Utility"
but honest, I got the idea for the title long before I saw the
painting ... apologies to fine arts appreciators).
To commence gathering information, and using the topic "ovens"
(owned {and, or} operated by MIT Athena users for example) how
should I approach posters (here, for example) as potential
contributors to such a first volume?
If enough others would like to contribute regularly and have
all _Domestic Utility_ questions and answers and "facts"
to browse in discuss, could there be created a meeting "domestic_utility"
which short handle might be "1001" (like for `1,001 ways to get
your physical space and objects therein {fixed, working, replaced, etc}.
