Two things:

1) Richard, you are wrong.  Christians are the ones secularizing XMAS
   Christians are what, 65%-80% of the population of the country?

2) Catholics are a minority in the U.S.  In fact, the KKK, although more
   infamous and active in persecuting Jews, also targets Catholics.
   It just so happens that there seem to be quite a few Catholics involved
   in this discussion.

I like the idea of two holidays, one religious, one secular.  It gives the
possibility of everybody getting what they want.
Of course, none of my ideas have a snowball's chance in hell (apologies for
those who don't believe in Hell :-) (oops, apologies *to* not for) of
being implemented since the Congress is mostly WASPs.
