Microsoft's C compiler manual, in relatively tiny print, admits that some of the optimizations it makes are *UNSAFE* and may modify the effect of your code. Isn't that wonderful? I like the Watcom C compiler better. It optimizes more tightly and does *NOT* make any unsafe assumptions about what your code is doing.
