It shouldn't matter whether you go to a good psychologist or a good
psychiatrist (they key word here being "good"). The psychologist should
be able to identify the possibility that it's a physiological problem
as well, and then refer you to a psychiatrist if they think drugs
are the right answer.

I don't think this is stupid, in general. I consider prescribing drugs
for psychological problems to be a hack; sometimes it may be a useful
hack, but it should never be the long-term solution to the problem.
It's only when the psychological problems are a symptom of a
physiological problem that drugs may be the appropriate - and only -
long term answer.
