Perhaps your story would explain better, but I disagree.  CS people
have to do quite a bit of applied stuff though it may not often be
directly involve physical hardware like robotic arms and such.  (I
mean, we can't all sit around and think up new concepts/algorithms/do
system maintainence all day).

I will grant that MIT does a better job than the average state school
at mixing EE and CS classes.  The curriculum is set up to give a
CS major experience with hardware (6.002 (sort of), 6.004, and 6.003)
and the EE majors experience at doing programming (6.004, 6.001).
