No kidding.
I had to make this decision recently. Standing by my decision caused
the person to require hospitalization and mental therapy. It was not
fun. However, it was also the right thing to do, as giving in and
saying yes would have caused far more damage (to both of us) in the
long run.
Trust yourself. If you know things wouldn't work, you are almost
certainly right.
