The climate in Israel (with the control being exerted by the
ultra-Orthodox religious parties) convinces me that I'm more
comfortable practicing my brand of Judaism in the United States than I
would be in Israel.
Now *that's* a depressing thought.
And I *certainly* wouldn't belong in Crown Heights. Those are the
people who, as Marc put it, "hole themselves up and look out (and
down) on everybody else." :-)
