Biochemical Catch-22

Today at work I finished optimizing a process for one of our magnetic
particles. I was able to achieve a 67% increase in magnetic
susceptibility while maintaining the desired particle size. My boss
(who has been eager for me to finish this experiment for the last month)
looked at my results and said "That's a really nice experiment, but I
think we'll keep the process the way it is because that's the process we
have our data on."
It would probably take a couple of weeks (maybe a month) to do enough
experiments to show that the improved process has the same physiological
properties as the old one (and I see no reason to believe it wouldn't),
and all the old data would be applicable.
