In the MIT production, the "or you, or I" bit seemed to come out of
nowhere. Why couldn't it be someone else? Why would either of them
do? If the magic were simply trickery and aphrodisiac potions (and
the bit about pulling a coin from an ear did make it look like mere
trickery), then the requirement seems too arbitrary.
The scene with Ahrimanes made it more plausible. The choice between
the two people must be made because that is, for whatever reason, what
Ahrimanes wants. (It doesn't explain it, but it does point to a
character with his own motivations.)
