Re: Something I lost....

For a long time I went to MIT Catholic mass.
They pretty much had their theology in line with what I felt comfortable
with. Then I went to the Paulist Center (on park street in Boston) which
was a more intense variation on what I found at MIT chapel.
I would often bring friends to Church. Even non-Catholics. They
too got a lot out of the Paulist services.

Over time, I found that the poor treatment of gays by the Catholic
church, together with a recognition that I was not really a member of
the community of people who went to Church at the Paulist Center, I stopped
going to Catholic Mass.

I have not found a church that has the kind of spiritual AND human
values I hold. I have pretty much stopped going to any kind of organized
religous service because I find them all too much of a political hierarchy
rather than a community.

I now consider myself a Catholic in recovery (recovery from dogmatism, and
from the need to tell others how to run their lives).

I also consider myself a very spiritual person waiting to come across
a community.
