Boston schools are on vacation this week...

This morning I found my car broken into (window smashed with a large
rock) and my radio/tape player stolen. (I figured that since I had
never seen any evidence of any worse crime than graffiti painting in my
neighborhood and since I got home after 1:00am and since it was snowing,
I could get away with leaving the [pull-out] radio in the car.)

I called the police, who showed up and made a report. I took my car to
an auto glass shop to have the window replaced, and took a taxi back
home to pick up my second car. (No, I haven't sold it yet.) I tried to
start the second car, and it went rrrrrr, rrrrr, rrrr, rrr, rr, r,
click, click, click. I called AAA for a jump (they said "Ok. Someone
will be there within an hour."), but managed to get the car going in the
mean time, and called them back to cancel the request.

I drove to my insurance agent, and they had gone out of business. Their
accounts were given to another agent in town whose address I didn't
recognize (and my street map was in the other car which was at the glass
shop). I called information, got their number, and got through to the
new agent after five minutes of busy signals, only to find out that the
agent's office was located about two blocks from the auto glass shop I
had left earlier. (Of course I have $1000 deductible on everything
except glass, so I get to pay for the replacement radio.)

Grumble.

At least the thief was somewhat considerate--he broke the smallest
window in the car (the little decorative window next to the back seat),
and stole only the radio. (He left my check books, calculator, and even
my toll & parking meter money.)
