Recently I went to the bike shop up nearby and picked up a couple of
items for my bicycle. One was a cyclometer -- one of those frobs that
tells you how far and how fast you've gone, etc. It cost a fair amount
of money.

I've been in the habit of taking off of my bicycle everything that's
reasonably loose on those occasions when I lock it up outside the student
center. Lights, water bottle, pump, etc. It was only after several hours
inside -- when I was ready to leave, in fact -- that I realized that I hadn't
changed my habit to include the display of the cyclometer, which comes off
easy for just that purpose. I got outside, and sure enough, someone had
walked off with it.

I hadn't had the thing four days. Grrr.
