"Invite your father but not your mother" is bad advice. If one wedding guest
is liable to skip the wedding because of another wedding guest, that's not
the bride's fault. The only proper thing to do is invite both parents, and
let 'em fight it out among themselves. For further details, consult _Miss
Manners' Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior._
Well, Linda, if your real father won't come, can I stand in for your father?
Can my father stand in for your father? Can the president of SIPB stand
in for your father? What (if any) special role would your father have
played in this ceremony, anyway?
